The activities of church volunteers while on a mission trip could result in civil liability for injuries to persons or damage to property. Examples would include accidental injury to another person or damage to a dwelling while performing a construction activity. Under the UCCIB program, volunteers generally are included as insureds under the General Liability Section of the Church Package policy.
The insurance of the organization that supervises the activity generally responds to a claim. Gray areas for whose coverage applies are of less concern when all the entities are participants in the UCCIB program – your church, the Conference of the UCC or Region of the Disciples of Christ (Christian Church), and the host church.
